Anyone have any ideas on what reproduces the behavior? I've not seen it
at all myself using gnome-terminal.
Since it sounds like an intermittent issue, it would help to have some
sort of test case or workload that tends to cause the corruption.

This happens to me on the Asus EEE PC 701. It takes longer to happen.
The system freezes except for the mouse after 10 minutes while browsing
with Chrome:

Unfortunately the code doesn't permit having a given option listed in
multiple places. For instance; if you toggle the checkbox in one place,
it'd need to toggle the duplicate checkbox in the other place, and the
code just isn't set up to do that.
