If I understand this bug report and its dupes, the gpu appears to hang
but the kernel is able to reset it, so it triggers the gpu hang capture
tool, but doesn't actually leave the system in a hung state.
When 10.10 was released, the automatic hang capture tool was turned off,
which explains why th

[Sandybridge] Attempting to use Xv textured
It seems that you've got two monitors plugged in - does this problem
occur on both monitors simultaneously, both monitors independently, or
just one monitor?
Does this still happen if you unplug one of the monitors? (I'd start
with the VGA monitor, as I think it's more likely to have problems)

Oh, I forgot to mention I was reproducing the problem just by rebooting
so this was not a suspend issue. That was something separate I wish I
had gotten more information on now.

Yeah, there's some foundational bugs that prevent installation of binary
drivers in the usb live environment from actually working. Consider it
