Albert, I don't think they will *decide* not to repair the bug. It's a
pretty obvious one. It still seems to affect a small number of users,
though, so it might not get the priority we would like. But these sort
of problems often get fixed by the next release.

I have same trouble with nvidia-96 on 10.10 fresh install.
I can see both viewpoints. I know people that upgraded to Windows 7 and
found older peripherals no longer worked and had to be replaced, so it
does happen with “mainstream” OS. However there is a definite perception
that Linux generally is
Affects me too. Dell Inspiron. Audio will often stutter but shaking the
mouse will stop the stutter.
Have also noticed that the keypress repeat is affected. An example of
this can be replicated when scrolling through text in a text editor;
hold down a key to scroll ('j' in my case with VIM) and if

I downloaded the official source from http://openchrome.org, compiled and
installed it, now my system works perfectly.
However, I suggest leaving this bug in open state, for helping others solving
this problem.

I'm confirming the problem still exists with Maverick x64 kernel
2.6.35-22 running KDE4. System is Thinkpad T400 using Intel 4500.
Sometimes a hard reset is the only way, sometimes I was able to switch
to a VT and get those message around (but not exactly) every second
(based on the timestamps):

I've pulled the xserver-xorg packages from Lucid, and used the Maverick
nvidia-96 package. Pinned xorg, xserver-xorg on the Lucid release using
"aptitude hold xserver-xorg". Working nvidia drivers again for the old
system.
I'm not on that machine at present, sorry to not post specific versions.

I found some information about my video card. IBM T42 with ATI Radeon Mobility
7500 does not work with fglrx.
I done try to install other version - nothing to good, "aticonfig" does not
find supported videocard.

alessio, I think I have taken the wrong approach with this bug. Per
your initial report and what information was gathered by apport, the
nouveau package was not installed on your computer.

I was getting the same error when trying to run Blender 2.5 Beta.
I added Tormod Volden's ppa and updated to his newer drivers.
glxgears seems to work now, I can re-size the window without it
crashing, and Blender starts up but has other issues. The text in

when you are in the login screen, there is a drop-up menu (in 10.04 is on the
bottom of the screen, slightly at the right) where you can choose session.
Choose "gnome session" and voilá. The setting is remembered for further logins.
