As released yesterday, Maverick seems to not include the fix.
So, I encountered the same problem on a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop upgraded
from Lucid.
'add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa' + update/upgrade solved the

Experiencing this on a Thinkpad T60 with ATI X1400 and the latest Ubuntu
10.10. The error does not seem to appear every time I resume fro m
suspend, but when it does only a hard reset seems to deal with it
(otherwise the computer does not respond).

I needed this PPA too, default Maverick upgrade broke my system.
I'm running Ubuntu on a HP-Compaq Dc5800 with an onboard Intel
Corporation 82Q33 Express Integrated Graphics Controller.

I can replicate this very same problem.
Did a distribution upgrade to RC, and now to 10.10 Final after launch
and it still persists.
Basically once any Sound output occurs (Rhythmbox or Flash) the left-
click stops responding.
Oddly enough the Ubuntu sound plays fine on login, so I don't suspect

10.10 with Nvidia, KDE and three montior setup using Xinerama crashes
for me as well. If I disable Xinerama I can get two monitors working
with Twinview instead, but three monitors always crashes for me.

Just updated to Maverick and get these same exact symptoms; crash when
going to fullscreen and the same assertion failures.

Confirmed for 10/10/10 release - shows purple Ubuntu boot screen, then
goes garbled, unresponsive when video mode would normally switch heading
into X.
Using ubuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64.iso (This is the ISO I got when I
selected 64-bit - not sure if there's a non amd64 ISO intended for Intel
chips.
I've duplicated the same issue with both a Microsoft wired optical mouse
and a Microsoft wireless optical mouse:

Workarrounds for the meantime:
Dual monitors: Use twinview. There is no need to have xinerama enabled if you
just have two monitors using twinview.
Besides with twinview you get hardware accelerated graphics.
Three monitors: Have two of them with twinview and one separate screen.

latest nvidia driver.
Think for me it was caused by some files of the nvidia driver in lucid
being replaced through some ubuntu files... or something like that... i

had the same problem with my Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard and
any type of wired / wireless mouse - even the hardware buttons on the
laptop itself. xserver-xorg-input-evdev and a gdm restart fixed it.

Thanks for the tips, that is basically what I'm doing right now, but
with KDE4.5 I can't figure out how to actually start apps on the 3rd
monitor (the one not using twinview). Nothing displays on that monitor
except the mouse cursor. (no taskbar, right click menu or anything)
