In the meantime, I get by using 10.04, and most of the time my computer starts
up satisfactorily. Only every one in a while it shows a black screen for more
than 10 minutes, and then I interrupt it, restart with the previous kernel
version (which has changed several times) and only then it tells

+1. The current version of nVidia drivers (non-free) for Maverick is
265.44 and does not work on my system with a GeForce GT240M. the
Nouveau drivers are useless (no 3D, horrible resolution). I had to
download the /.56 drivers from nVidia to get a proper display on my
system with Maverick.

Ian - I'm not sure that you have the same bug, as I don't imagine your
ATI FireMV 2250 cards (RV516 chip) have sideport memory, but does this
issue still occur with the Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" beta Live CD

If I use the keyboard shortcuts on the far left of the keyboard to
change the volume, the mouse left click will become pressed down and
will not reset itself. At that point I can only right click. I have to
restart GDM to be able to use my PC again.
