Same problem here. On Lucid turning off works with the 2.6.32 kernel but not
with 2.6.35.
The crazy thing: when I turn off the screen with grandr instead of xrandr it

Referring back at my Ubuntu Maverick on an old AthlonXP PC, with an Asus
A7V266-E motherboard and a 7600GS video card from Club 3D.
Today I downloaded the maverick-desktop-i386.iso daily build. Because is
was 734,0 MB I burned it on a DVD-RW.

I just found that removing /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf and changing
"set gfxpayload=keep" to "set gfxpayload=text" in grub fixes the X

When using KMS, "dmesg" shows that the radeon driver puts my 7500
Mobility in 1X mode instead of 4X mode which the AGP V2 bridge supports.
It used to default to the correct mode with 9.10. The problem originally
appeared on 10.04

On linux-headers 2-6.32-19.28, the cursor is appearing.
But on linux-header 2-6.35-14.20 and 2-6.35-15.21, the cursor is hidden.
I don't know if it's a xorg bug or a kernel bug.
