Hi.
I upgraded to 2.6.32-24-generic via update manager. The machine then
hung exactly as described in comment #49. I suspect the module build
failed as I couldn't find it in the 2.6.32-24 modules when I booted
using an older kernel.
I then upgraded my NVidia drivers to 256.35-0ubuntu2~xup from PP

With ati opensource driver, when i turn on desktop effects in kde, when some
effects are played (ex : wobbly windows) I see screen corruption in the windows
diplayed (but not in plasma-desktop background, that's strange). When i turn
them off all my desktop is displyed good

Stephen, substitution of google earth libGL.so.1 does not resolve any 3d
issues in google earth, it just helps tu run it as of version 5.2

I was ok until tonight, when I installed all the latest updates.
Got a crash after rebooting, decided to try the 855gm-fix, so I did
the following in a terminal:-
