This bug can probably be closed. I ran into some similar problems with
the release of 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04. I solved the problem by
purging all nvidia packages. Then removing the directories:
/usr/lib32/nvidia-current
/usr/lib/nvidia-current
which were not empty meaning somehow cruft had a

I've not had time to read the 65 posts above, but I've experienced this

I hope someone can fix it for all Ubuntu/Linux users. It seems weird
that numlock sometimes moves the mouse instead of being a number pad.

Oddly enough, two-fingered scrolling can be enabled in Gnome from the
command line, but not from the GUI. Run the following command:
gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/scroll_method 2
