It's not related to the nvidia driver, but to the xorg package.
The fix is to rebuild the xorg package xorg-xserver-base with the patch
as discussed on the xorg upstream bug. I obtained the patch

My configuration with 2 nvidia cards worked fine, but the one with 1
nvidia and 1 radeon results in the Xinerama geometry problem (on the
display head that's connected to the radeon card).

The duplicate status is wrong. This is a different problem from bug
#584655. "No space left on device" X crash vs. "Input/output error" X
hang.

Had apport running for this crash,
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state contains only "no error state
collected".

I'm getting exactly the same behavior, with keyboard layout and
bluetooth icons, but not any other icons in the system tray.
In KDevelop, this also happens to the breakpoint and bookmark icons. One
time, all of the "x" icons on the editor tabs became corrupted (except
for the selected one), but th

I have it working. I simply hit ESC at the grub prompt and F6, then
added the lines:
