OK, tried Workaround A, same problem but get blank screen instead of
flashing lines. Tried an earlier kernel and that gives me same problem

Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting
with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver
by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because
upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are

Do you have desktop effects switched on? Have a look at system / prefs
/ appearance at the visual effects tab and change to "none" and see if
the problem continues.

This doesn't appear to be nvidia related, since we have an Intel display
notebook that also does this "ctrl-c" X-server crash:

Anyway, it could be also problem of "linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic" but
i'm not sure.
Could i make any test to discover the if the origin is at the intel
driver or at the linux image?
