That is the only way I can describe what I see. The screen is
orange/brown and makes a brighter coloured ring that shrinks toward the
center of the screen. It actually looks like melting plastic. Of
course it is not, it is just LCD light.

Live disk works for me, but I've been getting blank screen/incomplete
boot every single time on 2.6.32-14-generic after sucessfully
upgradinging from karmic to alpha1 and then updating periodically

I just confirmed this workaround does function on the ubuntu lucid alpha
3 live. I created a bootable sd card with unetbootin and the alpha3
iso, then edited the file syslinux.cfg on the sdcard and changed the
similar default line to the following:

I suspect that you're seeing a strange manifestation of bug #522692.
Can you check if removing plymouth fixes your problem?

What is the actual problem that you are seeing here? I can't find that
error message in any of the attachments you have here.
Also, could you please wait before forwarding your bugs upstream? We
need to ensure that it's not a problem that we have introduced with our
packaging before sending it t
To clarify: the live cd (which livecd? Alpha 3? A daily?) *works* for
you. Does this mean that the nouveau driver works fine from the livecd?
Do you get a splash screen during boot from the live cd? What is the
output of running “uname -a” on the live cd?

Since I currently don't have the time to re-try and install Karmic,
Lucid, or any other release, I suggest that the Ubuntu team will deviate
from the regular procedures, and will accept the findings of other
posters.

Hello
I have tried the actual alpha3 desktop cd and the ubuntu desktop daily build (I
think dated 26-Feb-2010). Neither worked for me. I will try the 28-Feb-2010
daily build tonight to see if it has improved. The only way I can install Lucid
is by upgrading from Karmic. I haven't tried the alt c
I am going to try response #3 now.

I too have noticed this issue cropping up over the past couple of days.
In my case I was switching themes when it occurred.
