hang problem at this late in the game. It was triggered by bug 372103,
but that got fixed ages ago. Additionally, the computer on which I
experiencing the hang has had a complete OS reinstall since then (and

The symptoms sound very - i said - very similar. I'm not sure what I did
to get it all working but after a day I got my system up and running
again, I think I've been removing/move lot's of files in $HOME starting

Had time testing the mainline Linux kernel (Feb. 20th and 21st). Same. I
tried switching to vesa drivers --- same! It is impossible to start X11
even if I start the rescue system, then using startx. The whole thing
freezes immediately.

but actually it's fine for it to load nv as well as nouveau as they

We've gone back so far now that we've nearly gone back to the Jaunty

I have the same problem on 9.10. runs at 1680x1050 @ 60 hz but Catylist
(ATI) control center sees max res at 1920x1080 @ 75Hz refresh but it
will not switch to this setting.

Yesterday I upgraded from Ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic, and now I'm experiencing the
following problem:
After logging in to the system, the screen randomly flickers, and at a

@Marcerino: I didn't mean to actually upgrade to Lucid, the link was
meant for you to get the LiveCD, boot from it and then see if the same
problem persists that troubled you before :) If it does then we can move
on to the next steps. Thanks.

good idea :) if this isn't a major/critical problem, then you can wait

@David: I'd say from the link I gave above, get a live-cd and check if
the problem still exists, we can't really fix customized kernel based
problems here, so if you could check if the problem exists in lucid
alpha, we can fix it in the Ubuntu kernel :) Thanks in advance.
