Interesting...if you are not able to even get to X at boot, sounds like
dram lost. You could try changing your settings in your BIOS video size
up to 8mb if lower, and remove boot splash to give some dram back to
start X;-)

This is still not fixed with 2.6.32-14.20-generic and the latest xorg-edgers
drivers, but a there is a little more information:
1. the png no longer displays when using EXA (eog display black only)
2. I am unable to enable compiz if using XAA-- X froze 3 times in a row when I
enabled desktop affe
This is still an issue with 2.6.32-14.20-generic and the latest xorg-
edgers drivers. I maintain that this is a higher priority than 'Low'
because this bug will affect people if KMS is blacklisted for the radeon
(as mentioned in my last comment, the only known stable configuration
for the radeon 75
Of course, a minute after posting my last comment, X froze.

As you can see in XorgLog.txt, I use a radeon graphics card (Radeon HD

I updated xserver-xorg-video-ati to a current git snapshot 1b7e9a2e [1]
and the tearing bug was fixed. I cherry picked "r6xx/r7xx: implement EXA
vline support" [2] and updated the xserver-xorg-video-ati package, but

Thanks for following up Bryce.
I eventually determined that the reason the DVI output was not working
was because there was a bug in the code that accesses the serial
configuration information for the DVI monitor. Because of this issue,
the driver didn't think a DVI monitor was hooked up. I ende

Hello,
I own an Hercules EC-800 and, tired of Mandriva, I'm trying to use Xubuntu

After the upgrade to Karmic my desktop was black, but I still had the panel and
could use compiz.
Then I found this:

After the changes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf my desktop

kernel may do that by dependencies between modules, or other packages
can use blacklists to prevent one from being loaded, etc.
