I have found a solution. Using EnvyNG to do the install from a low
graphics environment works. Now it is as close to a plug and play as I

For now I can use the notebook fine with Xorg driver "fbdev" so I think that
it's not an HW issue.
Also as the corruption happens in the screenshot too so it's a software issue
IMHO.

If that didn't work for you then you must be experiencing a different problem
Removing /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video is the right solution. I'll make sure
that nvidia-common takes care of this.

I note a minor inconvenience to any advancement of kernel or better, for each

Um... Is there any reason why this bug is filled against the general ubuntu? It

The T410 ThinkPad has a WXGA+ display that supports 1440 x 900. Ubuntu
is showing the display as "Unknown" and only shows up to a 1280 x 800

Update: By changing "vesa" to "intel" in xorg.conf the full resolution
options are available and dual monitors work.
On the flipside, the desktop crashes a couple of seconds after logging
in (consistently) and compiz must be disabled. So it looks like the
latest drivers aren't quite stable.

Umm, I know it's fixed in Lucid, which is why this bug report is asking
for the fix to be backported to Hardy - Karmic.
