After a routine bug check, Ubuntu failed to start. I once again had to
drop down to a command prompt and switch off acpi to get it going again.

because, at least on my system, it disables 3D acceleration completely.

I can confirm this bug for a Dell Latitude D620 with an GMA 950 Intel
chip. However, on this machine, the trick with Fn-F8 does not work.
Reboot or putting the machine to sleep with Fn-Esc and then power it up,
fires up the screen again.

The gstreamer-properties workaround fixes the problem with things that
use gstreamer with xv, but I'm still seeing this problem with other
applications that use xv -- so it looks to me like the problem is not in
totem or gstreamer. MPlayer, for example, shows this problem with "-vo
xv", but not wh

I have a problem and wonder if it has something in common with this bug.
I have had karmic-purposed sources on and after one of the last updates
Xorg keeps sending me to a failsafe-session instead of starting up
properly. I hardly understand whats the problem, because restarting kdm
results in X is

not ideal solution, I'm still having occasional mouse jerky movement.
That's pretty strange as in Ubuntu 9.04 my mouse worked like a charm, no
jerky movement no, jumps to corners. This problem probably affect all

Switching to metacity before connecting the second monitor works for me.
Interestingly, I can enable compiz with the second monitor connected,
the output produced by it is as follows:
Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback
/var/log/Xorg.

Trying this work around resulted in the 9.04 desktop, but the mouse
was not responding...
