is a compositing bug. With the gdm session, if you disable compiz does

Btw, from the syslog output, there are some calls into glib routines,
which lends weight to it being a gnome component failing, however a lot
of the debug symbols appear to be missing. The call prior to the crash

Dual monitor, laptop screen went "liney" (this is normal when X is
shutting down), console login appeared on external monitor. It was there

Well actually it seems tat the driver i810 is gone and that only intel
driver might be used...
In Hardy, or Jaunty, use of intel driver instead of i810 could cause
freezes wile closing lid on i855GM cards.
This bug is back in Karmic, and the ansence of i810 driver prevents to

After upgrading to Karmic with ATI Mobility 7500 graphics, applications

This may be more of a general issue not specific to the -rt kernel, but
hard to say so far.
Could you please find and attach your build log that shows this issue?
The file will be found someplace like:

Compiz, the windows rendering content using hardware acceleration leave
a trail (old content not redrawn) when you move the window and/or are
not rendered are rendered on only one workspace (sometimes not the one

failed to build.

On a relatively old Dell C610 with an Ati Mobility M16 16mb graphics core...
Compositing is turned on by default in the installer and in the fresh system.
