but with nvidia's proprietary driver (185.18.36-0ubuntu8). Also, it is
not as reliably reproducible for me, xorg just crashes more or less
randomly. I am also using the default fonts (DejaVu) and anti-aliasing.

I've been having this problem too, on my Amilo LI1718 (Intel chipset
variant of the X200M).
Just clean installed the Ubuntu RC and it took 7 attempts for xsplash to
kick in (requiring a powering off and on of the laptop every time), and
suspend/resume still doesn't work.

This happens to me too on jaunty, but only about 5% of the time upon

DMXGetScreenAttributes() causes error: _XRead: Assertion

i've got an ACER ASPIRE 1350
used metod reported by modemlamer, with some different steps, just follow
commands down here.
first of all, manually configure your network address (lots of guides on
the web, basically ifconfig stuff)
