I have never had this issue before but am now experiencing it using
Karmic Beta (9.10). I cannot watch a movie using VLC without moving the
mouse regularly). I have turned off screensaver and set GPM to never
turn the screen off but it still turns off.

I have the exact same thing happening with my Radeon 9500 Pro. Was fine
in 8.10 (and Windows) but in 9.04 and 9.10 beta it displays the graphic
glitches/artifacts. It also crashes fairly regularly when dragging
Icons. I have tried the xorg-edgers xserver-xorg-ati and the problem is
still there.

a minute of login. After updates, it now will usually not freeze if

hickjacked by people with ATI cards and this bug. Most of the info there
is Ati-related, and every comment but yours look related to this problem
with the ati drivers.
