I upgraded my cloned Jaunty distribution with Karmic, and the booting is the
same (only blank screen)

monitor setup (not "Mirror Screens"). When I do a suspend to ram and
back the laptop display becomes a clone of the external monitor instead

There seems to be two separate problems here:
1) The issue I have where the monitor syncs, but has scan lines
2) The monitor doesn't sync at all, and requires running xrandr or similar to
resolve

i just tested mesa with r600 enabled on my own and it's probably better
to keep it disabled, because when running the stock karmic kernel and
calling a 3D app (and therefore Mesa) X is starting to hang. so only the
combination of r600 enabled Mesa and matching DRM modules should be

I confirm the bug, on x86_64 at least.
Besides, I don't know if it is related, but I have no access to usual non-X
terminal. Switching from X via CTRL-ALT-Fx show me nothing but a black screen.

This appears to be fixed now, I haven't tested in awhile so I can't
which update fixed it, but I can no longer reproduce with the latest
updates.

That's rather a bug in the OpenSource ati/radeon driver (xserver-xorg-
video-ati) and not in notify-osd. As verification I tried non-composited
metacity on an intel GMA X3100 (aka i965) using xserver-xorg-video-intel
and on a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT using nvidia-glx. In both cases the non-
