That is an incorrect way to update the bug tags. Rather than removing

I am running the xorg-edgers ppa and using KMS in hopes of fixing this
issue, the update to the edgers release reduced the problem
significantly, but there is definitely still flashing going on when an
animated cursor is showing.

I'm running Jaunty with nVidia driver 190.18.03. This is still an issue:
$ ls -la /dev/nvidia*
crw-rw 1 root video 195, 0 2009-09-04 23:59 /dev/nvidia0
crw-rw 1 root video 195, 255 2009-09-04 23:59 /dev/nvidiactl
My workaround is to add my user to the video group.
usermod -a -G video u

"radeon.modeset=1" needs to be added at the end of the kernel line, 1 space
after "splash". [Well, that's how it works for me :) ]
But do note , there is regression with using KMS , the FPS will be much lower
than without the KMS. [in my case nearly half]
So the system might *seem* a bit sluggish
