After upgrading to Jaunty (9.04), the problem persists. Even more
troubling now, since starting with Jaunty my graphic chip (RS690M) is
not supported by the proprietary fglrx driver any more :(

I guess this can be removed - I finally found some info on this.
As I guess everyone knows, fglrx doesn't yet support the latest kernel.
9.8 just came out, but it still doesn't support 2.6.31 just up to
2.6.30.
Worse, the open source drivers don't support r600-r700 - so I'm out in
the cold with 3
Further tests:
- Disable usplash doesn't correct the problem
- Lower/other resolution doesn't correct the problem
Any other idea of test to do?

I dont belive this bug belongs to xserver-xorg-video-nv as the problem
seems to be that the proprietary nvidia kernel module isnt being
loaded...? see the Xorg.1.log
