whi
i can reproduce it fairly well by draining the battery as low as it goes
until the laptop auto-suspends (all powersaving features enabled),
plugging it in and resuming. This is with the 195.36.03 drivers, but as
the issue seems to effect all of the recent driver versions it shouldnt
matter much.
the same issue is in the 190.53 drivers, I have (vague) reason to
believe it has to do with PowerMizer.

directly after an X crash, i found this in /var/log/kdm.log:

Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to
i mistakenly added the above comment, how to i get remove it?

sudo mv failsafe-x.conf failsafe-x.conf-disable
cd /etc/init.d
sudo mv failsafe-x failsafe-x-disable
works for me -- ive been told that this is an issue related to kdm
trying to start before video drivers are loaded: all credit for this
workaround goes to doctordruidphd on ubuntuforum

** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xorg
will suspend computer, and upon resume, xorg will give me a login
screen. This happens randomly.

this issue happened with both the 180 drivers and the newest 190. I am
fairly certain that it is an Xorg bug, as i have used the 180 drivers in
Jaunty with no issue.
