That patch was made to ensure there was a graphic environment even if
there weren't supported drivers, the fix should be done on the missing
file.

The culprit is patch 143_default_to_vesa.patch in xorg-server, which
breaks autoconfiguration. I'll disable it for now.

debian dropped 01_gen_pci_ids.diff from xserver-xorg-video-intel and it
was lost during the sync to debian unstable but is still needed on
ubuntu.

Indeed, the intel.ids file is missing. Restoring it from the previous
version of the driver (2.7.0-1ubuntu2) solves the problem temporarily.

I've reset xorg.conf by sudo dpkg-recongigure x-server-xorg so full auto
hardware detection is enabled.
Seems as if a fitting ids-file in /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci is
missing.
