@Peter, black screen bugs can be caused by a wide variety of different
causes, and given that your hardware differs from Santiago's, there's
not really a good indication you are seeing the same problem as he did,
esp. since the method he used for solving it did not work for you.

Same problem here (Phenom II 920, Gigabyte MA770-UD3, Sapphire Radeon HD
4670 Ultimate), but updating the mainboard bios didn't help. Changing
from DVI to VGA output did help. DVI works with Karmic (xserver-video-
ati 6.12.2).
