"sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-deskto" did the trick!
settings, audio, clock and battery icons all return.

Unity is the window manager for Ubuntu. Reinstalling it might fix the
indicator displays.
To do this:
- Open a terminal: Dash -> search for terminal -> open Terminal
- In the t
volume - indicator presnt but not functional
network - ok
bluetooth - ok
connection indicator - ok
cant seem to delete any applications

You could try to reinstall Unity: run in a terminal sudo apt-get
install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop . And restart after that.
This will not delete any of your settings or personal data.

Thanks for the reply. i was using Ubuntu 12.04 and upgraded to 12.10.
12.04 was functioning fine but when i upgraded i could no longer access
the system settings, the clock went away and the battery remaining time
went away. when i click on the system settings drop-down nothing
happens. Please
