The abovementioned patch has now been merged to mainline and should be
in kernel 3.8-rc2 if you want to test it. A PPA of this kernel should
soon be available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and
instructions on how to install and uninstall it are at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/
Actually, the commit message reads "drm/nvc0/graph: fix fuc, and enable
acceleration on GF119", so it should be faster. (FUC stands for Fermi
microcode).

According to the article at
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI2NTI the imminent
3.8 kernel will have microcode fixes for GF119 cards such as the GeForce
GT 620. I'm not sure if this will produce any performance improvements.
