Thanks stephan202! I have done some further digging and it appears to be related to the BIOS/EDID miss reporting informationMy screen is a 15.6" HD LCD 1366x768. the driver doesn't detect LCD correctlyso by default ends up with res of 0x0. :( I did false the screen 1024 x 768 by fudging

ok, I went back to source code and had a quick look. since the screen is set wrong, i placed a fudge in the code to test. since I didn't want to take chances the fudge was for 1024x768. Xorg.0.log now has (--) SIS(0): Detected LCD/Plasma panel (max. X 1024 Y 768, pref. 1024x768, RGB24) xorg go
