Thanks for the tip Leonardo Torok. I just tried it and it worked for me
too. Except the parameter is "nomodeset". If anyone tried it and it
doesn't work, you may need to add the correct modelines to xorg.conf.

I'm waiting too 2.6.31-5 has same problem. Intel 865. Display
Corruption begins almost immediately during boot process for me. Never
stops. In order to be usable in grub I select 2.6.31-2. Problem
started for me w/ 2.6.31-3.
