I can confirm this bug also on a Dell XPS desktop system, which was running Ubuntu for several years and versions before without any issues. I'm using Debian squeeze now, and the same bug happens on the same hardware. Note that it only happens on my desktop machine, my laptop doesn't show the symptomps (even with the same USB keyboard), though also having Ubuntu 10.04. For me it only happens with shift, other keys seem immune to it.
