I have the same problem and I'm looking for reasons... It's very
strange.
If you guys wanna cold down the computer using (opensource driver )while
official workaround doesn't comes out, just uninstall fglrx, remove
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file and run this commands:
sudo su
echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debu
** Also affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Confirmed
** Project changed: fglrx => ubuntu

I have freezing frequently at Ubuntu 12.04 using Gnome-Shell. Everything
freezes but the mouse, but it is useless because do not create none
event by clicking. It just moves.
I Can press CTRL + ALT + [1...6] to change TTY and sometimes I can
restart GDM and everything works fine. But sometimes is

But my mouse moves but do not launches any event (click, etc...). I can switch
to another TTY and restart X, and everything work nice until next freeze.
I am using an core i7 laptop with 8GB RAM and Radeon HD6770M graphic
card.
It freezes a lot!!!
