256.52 appears to fix the "won't start" issue (without needing ABI
ignore hints), but also appears to have performance issues. I get
slowdowns and choppy 2D and 3D effects when using it.
Will 256.53 help?

Laptop will not boot to login screen. Built-in LCD panel goes blank

(Neither does Alpha1 or Alpha2).
Compiz works! No corruption. Something must have been fixed between 9.10
and 10.04.

My experience is that enabling EXA in xorg.conf fixes only the
notification issue. It does not fix the lack of Desktop Effects.
EXA on: notifications work, no desktop effects possible (session locks

A fresh install of Karmic Beta enables Visual Effects by default
(setting = Normal). This creates issues with artifacts on the screen,
and other random redraw issues, making the system visually unusble. A
