Christopher M. Penalver, I've installed 16.04 and now the problem has
gone. I can test it on weekends, but this weekend it is running fine
(I've tested with one monitor and with two).

I'm using Nouveau with a Nvidia NV98 (GeForce 9300M GS) with a laptop
(Dell Vostro 1520) and an external monitor. When booting, sddm crashes;
the second time it runs fine (after restarting sddm):

With my ATI HD 7790, I tried the Open Source driver but it doesn't
support HDMI audio over DisplayPort. Now I'm not using DisplayPort but I
also had no luck because I'm using now two monitors and it also doesn't
support that (at least for me).

Public bug reported:
When the PC boots it shows the sddm login, but if I switch to the first
virtual console using Ctrl+Alt+F1, the console is blank. The other
consoles are in the same state. Only the virtual console with the sddm
login, is running fine.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.
It also happens to me using fglrx-updates (2:15.200-0ubuntu4) with an
AMD Radeon HD 7790.
