I may be having this same problem but currently unsure as it seems to be
tied to Skype use for me, although this might just be a coincidence - my
computer is rarely heavily loaded. It was the fact that the other
terminals still work that's made me this this is the same issue that I'm
having.

no display (as no grub menu). So, comment #39 is not an option either. I

No, it is a ubuntu Raring Vs KVM issue, not the other way round :) KVM is part
of the kernel, it is also part of cloud, guestfish which is a tool for KVM also
will not run under quantal (there is new stuff being applied for raring).
Raring KVM cannot run 'raring' without the video
Video corruption also appears when installing raring onto a CentOS 6.3
KVM system.

I've got a similar issue, but not sure if it's exactly the same cause.
My Xorg.0.log file starts with the right idea and changes its mind at
the end.
Initially it looks OK with these log lines showing correct values:
