I have manually installed linux-headers-4.4.0-9-generic_4.4.0-9.24_amd64.deb linux-image-4.4.0-9-generic_4.4.0-9.24_amd64.deb linux-image-extra-4.4.0-9-generic_4.4.0-9.24_amd64.deb and booted into 4.4.0-9 kernel. Unfortunately the misbehaviour was still there. so it is possible the kernel is not
