David, I can confirm the above workaround "fixes" the issue for me,
however, it's hardly an alternative since rendering performance takes a
huge hit, some of my applications are hardly usable and even terminals
are "lagging".

Also, I noticed that this bug might be connected to me running 'compton'
as my compositor. Is anybody else running a compositor by any chance?

Just throwing it out there .. reloading the psmouse drive a couple of
times "fixed" the issue for me on my end. I don't know if that's a
probable solution though. Hope to see this fixed soon.
