I tried setting
/sys/class/drm/card1/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level to "low",
letting the display go into power save and woke it up. Same garbled
display.

I tried updating the amdgpu firmwares from the linux-firmware package
from git.kernel.org. This didn't help. The display is still garbled
after it returns from power-save of the display (not the computer
suspending).
Firmware versions on linux 6.8.0-50 before my upgrade (and kernel
upgrade);
VCE
I cleaned out some boot parameters, didn't change the issue.
kernel: Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-6.8.0-50-generic
root=UUID=661d6386-e112-48a0-81dd-12c0344b2d22 ro splash quiet
net.ifnames=0 amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0x
crashkernel=2G-4G:320M,4G-32G:512M,32G-64G:1024M,64G-128G:2048M
This morning the display wasn't garbled. I can't find any change in
dpkg.log or elsewhere, which is confusing. I was hoping this could be
100% reproduced, now we are at maybe 98%.
