After setting the screen to normal, it appears normal except for my mouse

I have exactly the same problem, including the need for VESA drivers.
I've been documenting my rather noobish, and totally unsuccessful,

I'll try that. But isn't v2.6.39-oneiric a newer kernel than the -rc
ones?

Really? I can't fix bugs in Internet Explorer, but it's still my job to
find workarounds, because my code needs to run there.

I haven't done a bisect yet, but I did manually install the Linux
3.0-rc1 kernel from Oneiric and haven't seen this crash for several
days. The downside is that it looks like Natty's nvidia drivers won't
build on top of the new kernel, so I have to use Nouveau.

My wife has reported this, X always crashes when she's Facebooking. The
only relevant section I can find from Xorg.0.log.old is this:
[ 50080.223] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x4a2656]
[ 50080.223] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x621ca) [0x4621ca]
[ 50080.223] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthre
I have two Natty computers now, both with Nvdia 7-series cards, that are
completely unusable because of this bug. Whenever the screensaver kicks
in, the screen turns completely white and you have to ssh in and kill
the screensaver.

I also had a bug that produces grey windows, but changing desktop and
coming back gets the window redrawn.
Also many hangs where the mouse doesn't move for many seconds.

Upon upgrade to 10.04 from 9.10 (not fresh install) the XOrg failed to

I just realised that *unmodified* OOo documents work perfectly after resume. So
if I open a document and don't touch it until suspend, it will not cause the
problem described. If I open a document, modify it, then suspend, I get the
problem - it makes no difference if I save the document first o
Hi, just realised that I had filed a report for the same bug, #397880, I
marked mine as duplicate.
Just a couple of details that have not been mentioned here: it is
actually not necessary to restart OOo to solve the problem: it is enough
to close individual files and open them again to get them to
I've found also that using bios "optimized defaults" (and then changing
to boot from cdrom) often helps with such video driver issues upon
installing ubuntu/kubuntu, both for nVidia and ATi cards. At least, I
have clear enough video to install files on some systems--and, without
freezing on others.
This is happening to my wife, also.
See here for a workaround:
