I have quite similar problem: On normal boot keyboard and mouse freeze (few seconds after GDM prompt). On rescue boot + resume (no X, just console) it freezes too (few seconds after login prompt) => not an X issue On rescue boot + failsafeX everything works fine On rescue boot + root / netroot l
