Radeon drivers not loaded properly after upgrading to Saucy

Removing and reinstalling the package xserver-xorg-video-ati, now there
are no longer errors in xorg (so it looks like the radeon module is
loaded), but still 3D rendering is software based (llvmpipe), and now
the system is less responsive than before. On the good part I can use
two monitors.

Checking the automatic attachment xserver.errors.txt (what does this
file correspond to?), I see the following error messages:
Failed to load module "radeon" (module does not exist, 0)
Failed to load module "ati" (module does not exist, 0)
Failed to load module "modesetting" (module does not exist

After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy), GDM stops to work (strange
colors appearing on screen), and lightdm works using llvmpipe instead of
radeon drivers. Performance is really bad and dual screen no longer
works. It worked perfectly before upgrading.
When loging to the ses
In my case freezes disappeared when I removed the gnome ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3).
Having the gnome-ppa installed produced freezes not only in gnome-shell,
but also in Unity.

In my case freezes become more infrequent and shorter (but they do not
disappear) when I remove the tracker package, so I believe it is somehow
linked to hard disk access.
I'm using the Radeon driver:
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610
[Radeon HD 2400 PRO/XT]
Changing swappiness doesn't work for me either...

Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

In my case, every once in a while the screen freezes and the keyboard
and mouse stop responding. This lasts for about 0.5-5 sec, and then
activity resumes as normal. Makes usage of the computer very
incovenient. Cannot confirm 100%, but it looks like it is linked to
heavy processor usage.
