Removing and reinstalling the package xserver-xorg-video-ati, now there are no longer errors in xorg (so it looks like the radeon module is loaded), but still 3D rendering is software based (llvmpipe), and now the system is less responsive than before. On the good part I can use two monitors. --

In my case freezes become more infrequent and shorter (but they do not disappear) when I remove the tracker package, so I believe it is somehow linked to hard disk access. I'm using the Radeon driver: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 PRO/XT]

In my case, every once in a while the screen freezes and the keyboard and mouse stop responding. This lasts for about 0.5-5 sec, and then activity resumes as normal. Makes usage of the computer very incovenient. Cannot confirm 100%, but it looks like it is linked to heavy processor usage. Using Ub
