Public bug reported:
After installing fglrx and fglrx-updates 9.010 on Ubuntu Raring 13.04, I
have the Unsupported Hardware watermark in the lower right hand corner
of my screen.
I am running 64 bit Raring Dev, on a Radeon 6950.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04
Package: fglrx 2:9.010

This is the upstream bug report for this issue. It appears to be a
incompatibily issue with the newer versions of Cairo (1.12.2+) and
fglrx.
I do not know if newer version of fglrx fix this cairo issue, as there
is still the Radeon 12.10 driver s
This issue is still present even now. When installing 12.04 again on my
main pc, and rearranging the desktops after fulling updating my
computer, my system instantly froze again. Also, after my initial boot
up my computer would randomly flash black and then freeze shortly after
the picture reappear
After installing the ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa the flicker seems to have been
fixed. This leads me to conclude that the issue was caused by something
done in the default Ubuntu install of X. However, it would be nice to
see some of the changes with the 1.12 server and drivers to be brought
into mainline
This bug is still very much prominent, and all new responses to this bug
on Precise should be filed on bug 933289

This bug is still prominent in the Open Sourced drivers. I have found
many many references to people with this same issue and also with AMD

On a freshly installed system I tried installing fglrx-updates and got a
"instalation failed" message in jockey, but the drivers regardless seem
to be working alright. Don't know if this is the same issue or not, but
it would be nice to be fixed.

No this problem has been resolved. On my laptop I have not had this
issue in a long time. It looks like it inadvertently was fixed at some
point. Thank you for checking up on this issue.

The slowness has been fixed with the latest updates to compiz, but the
problem with it incorrectly reporting vesa as the driver is still
present. The new fglrx 8.960 seems to be quite awesome. It is fast, and
it has seemingly full compatibility with Gnome-Shell now, though
possibly still a bit slow
The EXAVSync option did not make any difference, nor did the Option
"DisplayPriority" "BIOS" or Option "DisplayPriority" "HIGH" options. I
did not see any noticeable difference between the two.
Right now the status on this ticket is incomplete; is there anything I
need to do on my part to get some
I am testing that option right now, I will report back once I give it
some time to test.

bad flickering with Radeon
Also, like I stated way before in the thread, when I was running Arch
Linux there was no flicker using open sourced drivers. I am wondering if
we can backport a fix that they used. I do not know enough about this to
be of much use though

I did try enabling "Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on repaint"
in ccsm did not aleviate any flickering and only caused more artifacts
and screen glitching than before.
Also, it isn't by any means exactly 5 min, and I believe that it is more
based on usage. Sometimes the tearing will happen
Another note. After completely removing the xorg.conf file, at first
startup the flicker dissapeared, and, again, came back after a couple of
minutes of use. Setting [Option "SwapbuffersWait" "on"] in the xorg.conf
file was ineffective, and there is no difference between with or without

WoW!!!
Using step 2 from above and tweaking the radeon driver [Option
"SwapbuffersWait" "on"] in the xorg.conf file solved this problem
perfectly!
This issue has been bugging me for almost a full year since 11.10.
Now that we know that this is the problem and your fix works, is there
any chance
Wait, I take it back. It worked beautifully initially on startup, but
after about 5 min of use the flicker has come back. Why would it work
right at startup, but begin to flicker after a few min of use?

Just an update, but with the last few xorg updates that have appeared in
the past few days, this issue is still apparent.

I tried the latest 3.3.0 rc6 kernel that you linked and the same problem
was there. There was little to no difference betwen the two kernels when
it came to this crash. The easiest way to cause this crash is to
rearrange the monitors in the display options and press apply. That will
instantly crash
Right on. I will test out the kernel and report back. Is there a way to
revert back to the stock on once we test it out?

Isn't the kernel used in Precise a 3.2 kernel? Or will I need the 3.3
kernel to fix this bug?

I would also like to note that my laptop with my Mobility Radeon 4200
series is the one that has the flickering, my desktop with a Radeon HD
