However laptop has AMD R9 M385 and it is correctly displayed as AMD R9 M385
under other operating system.

A few days ago I've updated Ubuntu once more and after that drivers were
correctly detected (steam ppa drivers?). Looks this issue is fixed in
latest versions of proprietary driver.

Thanks, that helped. Now I can launch `steam`. I can see some small
artefacts there like "Mess of pixels instead of closing X in top right
corner".
Is it possible to to make Geforce Gt 650m work out of the box without
black magic or Linus Torvalds shall cast his finger a few more times for
that?
Same problems were in Ubuntu 13.04. Installing x-swat ppa (in 12.04 and
13.04) did not help.
Tried using following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia
sudo usermod -a -G bumblebee $USER
