This bug was not fixed. It still affects me. The GPU doesn't go off, so
the power consumption remains pretty high (and the fan keeps on going).

Should this be done after the freeze occurs? For instance, from the

This shouldn't be marked as expired. The bug still affects me, the
display freezes periodically when using the nvidia card and can only be
recovered by switching in an out of the dm. However, this makes normal
work impossible. So I think everybody just uses their intel card
instead. This doesn't me

I don't know about you boys and gals, but I removed the nvidia-current
package and it fell back to using the nouveau driver. This means I am
now on Unity 3D and it works for me just fine.
I didn't try 3D games yet though, and I guess that would require the
'real' nvidia driver.

Hi.
Thanks for your post.
I'm now experiencing that bug on a fresh installation of Lucid with the
[current version] of nvidia's driver.
About the video playback problem, I don't think it has anything to do with
the screen flickering and freezing, although I still didn't check it on the
new install
Hi Jeremy.
Thanks for your email.
I definitely intend to test this with new versions of Ubuntu, and I would
love to assist you guys to solve this issue. I was waiting for the first
official release of Lucid that's supposed to come out tomorrow (the 29th). I
am now using the nv alternative video d

Before having seen this bug report, I filed a new bug report here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/527149
I believe the two bugs are the same bug (except for the video playback problem,
which wasn't mentioned here).
I hope that report will give you helpful information.
Thanks to everyone
