Also note that anything filling a log file quickly like that will
encounter the ext4 flush interval every 5 seconds, possibly causing some
programs to appear to freeze.

Using Kodi as reference for the behaviour of VDPAU hw acceleration on
the system:
The latest version of mesa doesn't work and makes Kodi crash when opening any
video.
I figured that when I downgrade every package of mesa to version 18.2.8, kodi
is now able to
run videos, but still without vdpau.

I had to use the step 3 to be able to report the bug. The .crash file
was uploaded to bug 1841428.
I noticed there is a backtrace in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old which seems it
was not uploaded. I'm not sure it is relevant, but here is the

When I returned to my computer (AMD RX580 graphics, amdgpu) after a
while (the screen had entered power saving mode), the gnome-shell
process (on XWayland) failed.
Unfortunately this crash was not automatically reported by whoopsie /
apport and required m
then again, this case isn't protected by NDEBUG, so... meh
