I had both.
First I uninstalled gnome-shell-extension-multi-monitors, did not help.
Next, I uninstalled gnome-shell-extension-system
Recently I formatted and reinstalled the version 18.04.1 Now the
overheating problem is gone. Everything is working just fine

This is truly sad when a vendor that built it's business on having good
drivers has fallen so far to deprecate a perfectly good
workstation/server grade video card in my server because they won't
release updates. I really need this fixed.

Followed instructions from #67.
Running 'cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_driver' to
check for frequency scaling driver shows 'acpi-cpufreq' instead of
'intel_pstate', even *before* adding 'intel_pstate=disable' to
/etc/default/grub.
After adding 'intel_pstate=disable' to /etc/def
Installing mesa 18.2.8 from the updates ppa fixes the problem.
