Tested 17.3.3, no success.
The artifacts appeared after the #1735594 fix, so they may be specific
to i965. My computer graphics indicate "Mobile Intel® GM45 Express
Chipset".
I found that the game titanion looks as expected when the window is
resized to 960x720 or greater. Inspecting the source I
I just got the whole mesa stack updated, including libgl1-mesa-glx (ver
18.0.0~rc4-1ubuntu3) and I still don't have gl acceleration, only llvm
pipe. Are there any other packages on hold?

I can reproduce the issue by unplugging and usb stick! When I plug it in
nothing special happens, but when I unplug it the bug appears
immediately. The same workaroud (switching VTs) resolves it temporarily.

are you sure it has arrived with _some_ gcc version already.
publications indicate its very experimental still and i can not see any
of the typical switches beeing honored by the gcc versions on my
machine. (and i was able to switch them forth and back using "update-
alternatives") needless to say
