I think this is a bug with Synaptics driver, rather than xinput.
I added a xorg.conf and changed to Driver "libinput"
With libinput the mouse pointer is moving in all directions.
** Also affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)

Upgraded from 16.04 to 17.04, Dell 9350. Using version 1.6.2 of xinput.
Using libinput for touchpad, no Synaptics installed.
After a variable but short period (usually within 5 minutes) the tap to
click functionality of the touchpad stops working.

Title:
Just made another test: I installed Steam and Faeria on my old laptop
which has a nVidia GPU. I haven't installed the proprietary driver yet,
so I'm on Mesa with Nouveau. Faeria works. I haven't tried Payday 2, as
the required config is far too high for this PC.
Specs:
- desktop: Ubuntu MATE 17.04
After adding Oibaf's (Mesa devel 17.1.x) and/or Padoka's (Mesa stable
17.0.4) PPA, I still had to manually install libgles1-mesa (which they
package) to fix the issues in both games.

libvdpau is marked Multi-Arch: same, and installing both amd/i386
packages works just fine here, even if I modify the wrapper first.
so I doubt there's anything wrong with the package itself
** Package changed: libvdpau (Ubuntu) => dpkg (Ubuntu)
