I believe I'm experiencing this issue as well. If lightdm loads up, I
enter half my password and the flickering happens, I type the rest of my
password and am not able to login. I believe the flickering interrupts
my typing somehow. When I retype my password entirely after the
flickering, it works
FYI: The problem is fixed in linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04-edge too.

to be specified with --scaling in order to disable the mouse constraints
when scaling.
