I have this all the time on one specific laptop. It's a weird hardware
issue and only rebooting (or VT switching) will get the cursor up.
Can't remember last time it happened on any other machine but I think it
does...

This xserver doesn't load the intel driver anymore on gen4 and newer.
You can get previous behaviour back by copying the template xorg.conf
from /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf to /etc/X11 and
restarting lightdm etc.
