graphics desktop. So the buffer implementation for the EGL clients is

Accidentally found a workaround!
You can set environment GBM_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 for Mir servers and
clients, and they will then successfully render in software using
LLVMpipe.

Update: Has nothing to do with Bluetooth. Has everything to do with
plugging in a VGA cable while machine is suspended and then opening lid
(resuming). Causes freeze. Opening lid first and then connecting VGA
cable does not elicit freeze.

The fallback to software rendering (llvmpipe) is a good sign. And a
moving mouse cursor is also a good sign (working KMS).
Although I don't yet see anything else on screen. Maybe our renderer is
using features that LLVMpipe lacks?
