Synaptic froze everything (to the mouse not responding) and once I had rebooted
"the hard way" and tried to upgrade again Bumblebee I found out that the
package libcuda1-304 was « half-installed ».
I re-installed every dependency of Bumblebee one at a time and it worked.

I can confirm that this bug is still not fixed in Ubuntu 16.04 Beta 2.
It's a shame that the fix is not added 5 years later. I would strongly
suggest to consider including it as I hit it 2 times before finding this
thread (and the fix) and both times installed different distro (as I
didn't find the
I just tried with 12.04 and I also get a black screen. So I got a black
screen with 12.04, 14.04, 14.10 and 15.10 - Desktop install DVD.
FWIW, to upgrade the bios I had to install OS X 11 (El Capitan), that worked
flawlessly.

Complete new reinstall on the same server and I can confirm that the
main VGA connector works. If I switch to the front VGA the screen is
black. On trusty I see at least errors in dmesg (see mentioned bug in
#4) but nothing on xenial.

Same problem after running dist-upgrade. I see the login prompt for around 1
second before it disappears.
